Oliver was born 5 Jun 1837 in Berlin, Brothersvalley Twp., Somerset Co., Pennsylvania. He died 28 Jan 1899. He was buried in Union Cemetery, Somerset Twp., Somerset Co., Pennsylvania.
In 1860, he was a carpenter in Somerset Co., Pennsylvania. With them lived Lucinda Knepper. Oliver enlisted in the Civil War on 6 Sep 1864 and served as an Orderly Sergeant in Capt M. V. Harding's Co. H, 211 Pennsylvania Volunteers. He was discharged as a sergeant on 2 Jun 1865 in Alexandria, Virginia. In 1870, Oliver was a carpenter in Somerset Twp., Somerset Co., Pennsylvania. His real estate was valued at $500 and personal at $800. Oliver was sheriff of Somerset Co. Oliver was killed in the battle of New Musket in the Spanish American War. So far, I have found no references to a battle of that name.
