1357. William Harrison MECHLING (Anthony Oberly , John Jarret , Thomas , Theobald) was born on 22 Feb 1847 in Mechling homestead, Lehigh Co., Pennsylvania. He died on 7 Aug 1923 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He was buried in Laurel Hill Cemetery, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
In 1869, he and his twin brother, Benjamin, went to Philadelphia and started a wholesale tea and spice business under the name of Mechling Brothers. This was the beginning of the business that was incorporated under the name of Mechling Brothers Manufacturing Company--a manufacturing chemists company in Camden, NJ. The name was later changed to Mechling Brothers Chemical Company. It was finally sold to the General Chemical Company and dissolved.
In 1905, he sold his share of the Mechling property in Lehigh Co., PA to his son, Benjamin.
He lived in Germantown, Philadelphia, PA. In 1896 he was admitted to the Pennsylvania German Society.
William married Sara Jane SCHRIEBER in 1872. Sara was born in Dec 1847. She died in Dec 1937 in Camden, New Jersey.

1358. Benjamin Franklin MECHLING (Anthony Oberly , John Jarret , Thomas , Theobald) was born on 22 Feb 1847 in Mechling homestead, Lehigh Co., Pennsylvania. He died on 2 Jul 1920.
He started a business with his brother, William (see William's entry). In 1891, he withdrew from the business and became president of the Albro-Clem Elevator Company of Philadelphia, which later combined and became part of the Atlantic Elevator Company. He was admitted to the Pennsylvania German Society in 1896.
Benjamin also married Grace C. HUBBS in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Grace was born on 15 Sep 1852. She died on 28 Jan 1925.
[Mercy VII-00] gives the date of marriage as 11 Dec 1988. That is incorrect given his death. I'm reluctant to simply correct it to 1888 given that would be after the birth of all three children which are marked as being children of this marriage.

In 1875, he was deeded a share of the Mechling homestead property which he, in turn, deeded to his brother, William, in 1876.
