There is a Will M. Hartzell who served as a First Lieutenant with the 5 Pennsylvania Heavy Artillery, 204th Volunteers. This may be Wilhelm. He enlisted as a Private on 3 Sep 1864 and was promoted on 11 Jan 1865. He mustered out on 30 Jun 1865. He died on 26 Jan 1899. He would have seen action along the Manassas Gap Railroad, Salem, Rectortown, White Plains and Bull Run.
