Simon was born 5 Mar 1844 in Glenford, Perry Co., Ohio. He died 30 Sep 1909 in Allen Co., Ohio. He was buried in Lutheran Reformed Church Cemetery, Thornville, Ohio.

Although he moved to Allen Co., Ohio with his parents, after his mother died he returned to Perry Co., Ohio to live with his grandmother Mechling.

On 23 Aug 1862 he enlisted in the Union Army, serving with Co. K, 126th Ohio Volunteer Infantry. He was discharged on 6 Jun 1865. While in the army he contacted typhoid fever. On 14 Jun 1863, he was taken prisoner at Martinsburg, Virginia and sent to Balls Island near Richmond, Virginia. He stayed there three months with no medical treatment. As a result of this, he suffered rheumatism the rest of his life.

After the death of his first wife, he moved to Hardin Co., Ohio.

He spelled his name Broceus, instead of Broseus.

Simon married first #26838 Lydia Ann Lynn.
