Bill was born 29 Oct 1922 in Kings Mountain, Cleveland Co., North Carolina. He died 31 Aug 2012.

He is the son of Arthur Durham & Bessie May Gantt.

He attended 1 1/2 years of college at Western Carolina, Cullowhee, North Carolina. He then worked for Good Year Fire and Rubber Company before oing into the Army.

Bill was a Staff Sergeant in the Chemical Warfare Service in the U.S. Army from 5 Feb 1943 to 9 Dec 1945. He was awarded a bronze Croix de Guerre for services during the libration of France. He discovered and photographed a nerve gas factory.

He graduated from North Caroline State College, Raleigh, North Carolina in June 1950 where he received a BS in Chemical Engineering. After college, he worked for the Alcoa Aluminum Company for 34 years.
