Frederick was born 1769 in Northampton Co., Pennsylvania. He died 10 Jun 1834 in Westmoreland Co., Pennsylvania. He was buried in St. Clair Cemetery, Greensburg, Westmoreland Co., Pennsylvania.

He owned a tavern in Hempfield Twp. called The Federal Springs.

Frederick married first #16213 Maria Marthin.

Relationship notes

They married.

Maria was born 1772. She died 1802.

Frederick married second #16214 Elizabeth Byerly.

Relationship notes

They married 1805.

Elizabeth was born 1776. She died 1833.

Elizabeth may not have been born a Byerly. The surname may have come from a previous marriage to Joseph Byerly who died in 1801 in Westmoreland Co., Pennsylvania.

Deborah Holden writes the following, referring to a daughter of Joseph & Elizabeth Byerly, Phoebe, who married Benjamin Hull about 1819 and moved to Wyandot Co., Ohio:

There are several pieces of circumstantial evidence that lead me to believe [the two Elizabeths are the same person].

First, the timing and ages are right.

Second, Benjamin & Phoebe name their oldest son Ferdinand Mechling Hull. They had 9 children, their daughter Cordelia was my ancestor. On Cordelia's death certificate, her mother was listed as Phoebe Macklin. All the other siblings have Phoebe Byerly as their mother and Cordelia's obituary also states Phoebe Byerly.

So my explanation is that the informant was familiar with a Mechling as her father, as would have been the case if he was her stepfather.
