[Mercy II-99] recounted a humorous incident recorded in the Ohio Eagle:

A MURDEROUS CRANK ATTACKS A FRIEND WITH A PISTOL IN THE DARK.

In our Maple Grove special there appears an account of an attack on Mr. Jim Wright at Mr. John E. Miller's, east of the city, on Sunday night. Suspicion pointed to Edward Swick as the assailant and upon investigation this seemed strong enough to warrant his arrest. The prisoner quailed and voluntarily gave up everything, including the pistol. In reply to a question as to his motive for the attack he said, 'dem fellers made fun of me at the Fair two or three years ago.' Swick lives east of Colfax and had been with Wright a great deal on Sunday and saw him get a ten dollar bill changed. He does not seem to be a Henry Clay in intellect.
