A plaque on their church reads: Founder of Macklin Chapel. Pioneer Jacob Macklin was the first Macklin to enter Jay County, having migrated from Fairfield County, Ohio in 1839. Jacob was born 1801 in Pennsylvania, and died 1872 at age 72 yrs. His wife Elizabeth was born 1806 in Ohio, and died 1878 at age 71 yrs. Jacob and Elizabeth were parents of 12 children, of whom only 6 survived childhood. Their surviving sons were Rev. Jacob C., Philip, Israel, and George W. Macklin, all of whom are buried in this cemetery.
