There is some uncertainty about the relationships of Casper to other, early Bernhardts. Several members of the family emigrated from Baden within a few years of each other and settled in the same area of Pennsylvania. However, whether they were siblings or cousins is not known for sure; the following represents the the best guesses of the German Genealogical Society of America.

It is thought that Casper had two brothers, Wilhelm and Christian. There is also some speculation, based upon patterns of land sales in America, that Jacob and Heinrich Bernhardt may have been Casper's brothers. If not, they were certainly close relatives.
