My ancestors were generally part of the German/Scots-Irish immigration of the 18th and early 19th centuries. Although this preceded the massive wave in the mid-1800s when half the population of Ireland and an equal number of Germans arrived in America...still wars, famine, religious persecution and unemployment impelled a significant number of families to emigrate from Europe. With some temporary detours to Maryland and Ohio, my family branches ended up in Pennsylvania, spanning across the state from Bucks to Washington Counties. By 1850 all could be found there except the Dandos, who were still in Wales, and the descendants gradually ended up in the towns of Derry and Greensburg in Westmoreland County by the time of my parents.
